about

One of drum & bass’s most in demand and dedicated vocalists; Bristol based Collette Warren returns with a five track EP, 'Black Rainbow'. It is the latest EP project from the Birmingham native since her first EP 'Hidden Lines' which was released on Innerground back in 2018.

Her second EP offering 'Black Rainbow' not only features five tracks that each present new elements of Collette's palette, but it also the first time the singer/songwriter is self-releasing. This exciting project sees her collaborate with a number of up-and-coming artists, whom she believes in and their music.

Opening with the EP title track, Collette’s signature rich, jazzy tones are highlighted in an instant, over Brazilian Dunk’s production. Lyrically honest and deep as she always is, Collette sings about anxiety which Dunk compliments with a multi-genre layered track with a deep drop that’s sets the rolling bass undertones for the rest of the song.

Next, 'My Song' sees Collette pay homage to UK club culture - something we’ve all been missing in the last 12 months - alongside producer Trex, and pays respect to her Mom in 'Nothing In Return', with US producer Winslow.

'Only One' with Motiv ascertains Collette’s live aspect that gig-goers may have witnessed with her live band, Collette The Dots. Complete with a funky guitar lick that adds a different type of groove into the mix, 'Only One' is an EP highlight.

The final tune, 'Rise Up (Together)', is a neo soul track with long-time friend and collaborator Philth under his new alias, Starphunk. Having worked together previously many times before; 'Rise Up (Together)' sends a warm, positive message in its lyrics and also showcases a different side to both these artists in terms of sound and growth.

Not only is 'Black Rainbow' a great EP from start to finish that offers the listener a fresh take on Collette's sound, sass and vocal range, it also proves her versatility as an artist.
